SUSTAINABLE DUTCH DESIGN BY SUZANNE DIKKER
The brand SUD stands for Sustainable Dutch Design by Suzanne Dikker, an ongoing collection of handmade garments and textiles. Each piece is created with meticulous care and great attention for our naturecultural environment. They are made of biodegradable fibers and botanical dyes, in Dikker’s studio in Rotterdam. The clothing ranges from carefully refined basic shapes to entirely handmade, soft sculptural pieces. The pieces are available in limited edition and on request.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Timeless shapes complement various body types, ensuring SUD pieces flatter and enhance the natural beauty of the wearer. Comfortable fits are carefully tailored to allow freedom of movement without compromising elegance. Attention to detail is evident throughout the collection. Each garment is meticulously crafted with impeccable finishings, such as subtle bias taped hems, ribbons and French seams. SUD adopts a minimal use of hardware trimmings, allowing the inherent quality of the design to shine through.
NATURAL FIBERS
Complimentary to their beautifully rich textures and appearances, natural fibers are known for their breathability and softness, making them comfortable to wear against the skin. They are biodegradable, which means they can easily decompose without causing harm to the environment, reducing pollution and waste. Moreover, many natural fibers have excellent moisture absorption properties. They can absorb and release perspiration, keeping the body cool and dry.
RENEWABLE COLOURS
Plant based pigments offer a wide range of lively shades. They provide an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic colourants. The pigments are sustainable as they can be replenished through farming and cultivation, reducing the dependence on chemicals and other non-renewable resources. When they are released into the environment, they naturally break down over time. Plant-based pigments have been used for centuries by different cultures and communities around the world. Their usage carries and promotes traditional knowledge and helps preserve cultural heritage.
